drinking beer behind the casino
Pictures of You play in my head
another day spent waiting for tomorrow
I fell asleep along the riverbed
now I'm waking up for lost time
a little funny how it slipped away
I felt an odd affection like some old blues
or just a mirror down a dark hallway
lately I have been distant
though you might call mine trademark
what else have I been missing
when I'm walking around after dark
with a head full of paint and playing cards
getting further and further from the water
the sunset is a ribcage filled with blood
all the empty cans rattle in my backpack
like the fever burning in my lungs
unceremoniously I've been blistered
around the town on the dark side of the road
now there's a page torn out of every chapter
anyway... a mirror can't be a window
dust on the wall of your favorite music hall gets lifted
Disintegration comes to an end
when every wrinkle in the hand of that famous wedding band starts twitching
wear your finest post-pandemic threads
it's what the doctor soon will recommend
nine out of ten.
